About Kamshet station

Kamshet is the gateway to the Pawna lake region and one of India's best-known paragliding destinations. The hills around Shelar and Tower are flown for most of the year outside the monsoon, and a small industry of flying schools, guest houses and camping operators has grown up around that. On a clear winter weekend you can often see canopies in the air from the train.

It is also the last station before the line begins its climb towards Lonavala, and the point at which mobile signal starts to become unreliable. If you need to look something up — a return time, a booking reference, a map — do it before Kamshet rather than after.

What is nearby

• Paragliding at Shelar, Tower Hill and Kondeshwar — most schools arrange pickup from the station
• Pawna lake, about 20 km away, for camping and watersports
• Bhairavnath and Kondeshwar temples
• The Kondeshwar caves, and the Karla–Bhaja circuit within reach
• Autos and pre-booked pickups wait outside for the main arrivals

Worth knowing before you travel

Kamshet to Malavli is the longest gap between stations on the line at 8 km, and takes around seven minutes with nothing in between. Do not doze off past Kamshet if Malavli is your stop.

When the station is busy

Weekend traffic is dominated by visitors heading for paragliding and Pawna lake; weekday traffic is local and light. Paragliding largely stops during the monsoon.
