Distance from Pune to Lonavala by train
By rail it is 64.4 km from Pune Junction to Lonavala, covered in 80 to 85 minutes by the all-stations local. By road on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway the distance is similar, around 64 to 66 km, but the journey time swings wildly with traffic — which is why the train stays the more predictable option on a weekend or in the monsoon.
The longest and shortest hops
The longest gap between consecutive stations is Kamshet to Malavli, 8.0 km, where the line starts to climb towards the ghats — about seven minutes with nothing in between. The shortest is Pune Junction to Shivajinagar, 2.6 km, which takes five minutes. From Talegaon northwards the stations thin out noticeably as the line leaves the Pimpri-Chinchwad urban belt behind.
Elevation
Pune Junction sits at roughly 560 m above sea level and Lonavala at 622 m, so the climb across the whole run is only about 60 m. The famous gradient on this corridor is the Bhor Ghat, which begins beyond Lonavala on the descent towards Karjat and Mumbai — the suburban service does not go that way.
