About Pimpri station

Pimpri is one of the two heaviest-used commuter stations on the whole line. It serves the dense residential and commercial core of Pimpri-Chinchwad — a city in its own right, with well over a million residents — and morning trains towards Pune fill up here to the point where boarding takes real determination.

The town grew around the industrial expansion of the 1960s and 1970s, and the station grew with it. Its booking hall is the busiest on the line outside Pune Junction, and there are usually several ATVMs working, which is the difference between a two-minute wait and a twenty-minute one.

  • Multiple ATVMs, which are considerably faster than the counter at peak hour

Worth knowing before you travel

If you are heading towards Pune on a weekday between 08:00 and 10:00, board towards the rear of the train. The front coaches fill first because they are nearest the footbridge, and the difference in crowding between the two ends is substantial.

When the station is busy

The classic commuter pattern: heavily loaded towards Pune in the morning, heavily loaded outward in the evening, and comparatively easy in the reverse direction at those same hours.
