About Shivajinagar station

Shivajinagar is central Pune's second railway station and the origin of a small number of Lonavala locals, including the late-evening service numbered 01578. It sits directly beside the Shivajinagar bus stand, which makes it the natural interchange for anyone arriving from the Deccan, FC Road, JM Road or Kothrud side of the city.

For a great many people living in western Pune, starting a journey here rather than doubling back to Pune Junction saves both time and an auto fare. Trains from Pune Junction reach Shivajinagar roughly five minutes after departure, so a service listed as leaving Pune at 06:30 can still be caught here at about 06:35.

• Pune Metro's Shivajinagar station is a short walk, served by both the Purple and Aqua lines
• The Shivajinagar ST bus stand runs services to Mumbai, Nashik, Kolhapur and across western Maharashtra

Worth knowing before you travel

If you are heading anywhere west of the river, Shivajinagar is almost always the better boarding point. The exception is a crowded weekend morning, when a train arriving from Pune Junction may already be full.

When the station is busy

Heavily used by students and office commuters on weekday mornings. Because several services originate here, the late-evening departures towards Lonavala are usually less crowded than those that have come through from Pune Junction.
